For tissue culture huge carbon source is necessary like sucrose, Maltose and so on. Ms media contain those types of characteristics. I think for tissue culture MS media is best you can use different concentration of hormone in MS media.

If you need a categorical response, it's yes and no, at the same time. The best formulation is that allowed to obtain that what you need. The election of a mineral formulation depends basically from the species and from the purpose that you're pursuing.

The selection of media depends on the explant, but as mentioned here many small plants and shrubs thrive in MS media, while explant from trees thrive in WPM and MS.

MS (Murashige and Skoog) media is the most used MS media all around the world including sugar source (sucrose, glucose, etc.) and plant agar (or gelrite) as well. but using the MS media may not proper for some plant species. the best type of media depends on which plant you are working with. for example, if you are working with woody plants like blackberry, you should use Woody plant medium, or if you are working with herbaceous plants like rice, you can use MS media. after the decision of the type of salt and sugar source, you can add the plant growth regulators to your media, of course again depends on the plant species and the explant you want to work on it. I would recommend to reduce the nitrates to half as it is very salty medium....WPM or G5 media can be used as alternative
Based on my previous studies and personal experiences, MS medium has appeared much more successful than the others. However, since this culture medium is relatively saline, in sensitive species, medium 1/2 or 1/4 MS should be used.
