Dear collegues. Happy new year.
Dear college, your opinion is appreciated.
With kind regards, Shafagat.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Yes, modern technology is overall a great thing for people.
Modern technology has done amazing and wonderful things to advance humanity in the last 100 years. Today, people have computers the size of post cards (cell phones) that are more powerful than anything that existed 20 years ago. People are consequently able to connect to other people and services very quickly. Technology is also creating a much longer life span for people in industrialized nations.
Technology, if it helps human life easier or improve life standard in the term of educations, health, communications, surveillance etc . It also depends how much percentage we addict of it. The waste of technologies either solid or else material substances are more dangerous for environments. Still we be globally thinks, it helps us in several aspects of human lifes.

Modern technology have surely eased the human life , and expanded the dimensions of human expectations. And in turn , we have become so much addicted to technology , let it be any field. Technology is a symbol of advancement , but there are side effects of it . We the civilized world needs to strike a balance between the technology and ethics of life , to prolong the impact of the technology on quality life of human beings.
Future technology: a force for good or a source of fear?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/education/festival-of-the-imagination/11890618/future-of-technology-and-humans.html
'The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds," observed satirist James Branch Cabell. "The pessimist fears this is true."
So, both -- Good as well as bad!
Conscious and optimum use of technology may prove good and boon to human being and society. If we use it for positive things, it will have positive effect of our lives and vice versa.
Otherwise it will affect adversely.

it is not clear we can not say directly a conclusion abut this matter. we have adventegeous also disadventegeous...
One thing for sure: Modern technology has revolutionized the way people all over the world communicate and interact. As a result it is no longer just a tool for survival but it turned to a means of communication and entertainment. However, it has bad influence on our society, too. More and more young generations in our society are addicted to it and participating in a massive, unintentional social experiment the results of which are not entirely predictable.
We cannot place modern technology as a blessing in disguise .All the development which we see around us & so to say inthe world are due
to technological development .
Technological & or scientific development may have certain adverse influence & it has even endanger the society or even
the atmosphere & environment of the nature.Even with this vicious line ,technological & scientific development have made
our life comfortable & greatest advantages is the world has become smaller .
This is my personal opinion
"Our technological powers increase, but the side effects and potential hazards also escalate"
~ Alvin Toffler
It is certain that technology will continue to be part of our lives and to heavily influence the way we work, live, and interact; whether it be in positive or negative ways seems to be in the choices each person makes in how they choose to use technology in their individual life.
Overall, modern technology has been good to us and has made our life easier, but there are negative aspects as well.
Pros:
Today, thanks to exponential growth in processing power, storage, and bandwidth, we have the ability to do things that were literally impossible just a few years ago. With advancement in the technology, numerable gadgets have been invented which have made our lives much easier. These gadgets help man in reducing the effort needed to do some monotonous tasks.
Education is yet another area where technology is having a major impact. Students can find almost any academic material or answer to a research question just by using online resources or academic databases
Cons:
We has become dependent on technology and because of that we are getting lazier!. online shopping and a lot of other areas where we have substituted a technological (lazier) way of going about these activities rather than the traditional way.
We are losing our privacy as well. Even though we have mobile phones and we love using them, technology has exposed us to predators. Now days, businesses have devised cookies which collect private data from our smart phones and they use that data to suggest adverts related to our interests. This means that we have no privacy when we use these smart phones.

OK, but I think it rise a question: does anyone knows how to predict where technology development will bring human as a species in future? I'm not quite convinced it is not a dead end for H. sapiens, maybe even somewhat pessimistic.
When modern technology is guarantized and reliable, it can be good for the men. But if the technology is not guarantized and is not reliable, it could be bad for the men.
I remember technologies of the years 60, they were secure and durable. Much modern technologies does not have those standards of quality and duration.
We can trace back the impact of the technology on human life , from the history of technological advancements took place in many of the advanced countries , percolating to many of the Afro-Asian countries , feeding millions with their own resource management on one hand , and sending their mission space crafts for various resource inventory purpose on the other hand , all hallmark of the impact of technology on human life and life expectancy .
Simply, It depends upon its use and user.
For example online banking/shopping - no need for any planning as we did 20 years before, if you aren't careful about your personal details , you know what will happen
To say simply, development of modern technology is beneficial for human in many aspects, but we should be careful not to give damage to nature by the development. Otherwise, technology would finally destroy human.
I think any type of modern technology can be considered as good or bad. For example, technology can give you cancer (which is bad, of course) and technology can cure your cancer (which is good, of course). So it's not about whether modern technology is good or bad; it's about what we decide to do with technology that matters.
There is a historical example: Technology for the production of ammonia aimed first at getting explosives, out of it, that are needed for war. Later on, the same technology "with some modifications" served the humans in the production of "safe" fertilizers & good unbreakable plastic articles (such as melamine-formaldehyde dishes or plates).
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"This is why I loved technology: if you used it right, it could give you power and privacy."
–Cory Doctorow
Modern technology is a double-edged sword! There are good and bad things. For this reason the public should be informed about the developments of technology in a understandable conceptual language.
Technology is a double-edged sword!. It is up to us to use it properly.
"Technology is a wonderful tool, but also if used incorrectly a horrible tool. We're fascinated by all aspects of it, whatever makes our human lives easier on the planet, but eventually there will have to be some sort of merger. The fascination isn't going to die down"
~ Reggie Watts
"Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we're too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone"
~ Steven Spielberg
Technologies are great! We can communicate with our far relatives and friends. We can control our children and solve our problems at home. The Internet is source of knowledge-a library,a vocabulary,sites,mails,pictures,web-materials,videos,music.You can visit virtual conferences, seminars, other cities. All world is near,at your home. It's very comfortable for education, for self-improvement,for relaxation. The dangerous moments are Trolls (envious or well-paid,provocative persons) and every of us is under control.
Dear Shafagat, modern technology is actually neutral but it is a great enabler. So most of us would see its positive effects in making most work faster and easier: banking, medicine, education and almost every sphere of life. It is for us to control the time we spend on our devices. The blue light may interrupt our rest and sleep, so it may be necessary to use amber lenses, or glasses that cut out the blue light. But I turn off all devices some hours before sleep time to get good rest. That is absolutely necessary to work well, without that REST, no technology will be helpful to our work or to our HEALTH. I wish you all a happy, healthy 2016.

Technology is neither good or bad, it is what we make of it. If we use a hammer as a weapon then it becomes a weapon. Technology is agnostic to the end,and it is up to us to decide whether it is used for a positive outcome or negative outcome.
We must also ask whether we are better off with a technology or not. For example, in my opinion, while computers have made us more "productive", its implementation and current interfaces are making us slaves to them. Can we solve the problem? My answer would be yes. Are we willing to change? I am not sure, and it is not the computer's fault.
Just a thought
Modern Technologies are good for present generation (it seems) but based on the earlier technology, the modern technologies are going to impact and affect the next generation, examples are many, Ozone depletion, Global warming, depleting of natural resources like water, fossil fuel etc... Of course the renewable sources like solar, wind and tidal energies are not having bad-impacts.
I want to make my own humorous quote about technology.
Technology is like one's beauty: those possess it want to keep it, and those without it searching for it.By "searching for it" i mean doing some surgical operation such as nose or face lifting, face and hair coloring, etc.
Just an instrument. Its capacities should be analyzed taking into consideration 4 -wh principles that are who, what, when and where.
Any technology modern or ancient can be good or bad depending on how and for what purpose one uses it. Glaring example is nuclear technology. If one uses for power production, or for medical it is a boon for humanity. At the same time it can be used in war for mass destruction. Similarly for other technology. Some may be less harmful and more beneficial. So we human has to decide which is good or bad.
To rely only on technology in solving human medical problems, create the impression that the human elements in the medical field is out dated or not important. The human element can not completely eliminated or relegated to the background, because the human elements still apply, interpret and make the appropriate decision(s) on the result of the technology.
Like two sides of a coin, modern technology has the good and bad sides, which we must learn to live with.
It depends, in general they're very useful and importants for all, but in some ocasions the people makes an incorrecta use of theirs and make a lot of problems for orhets persons.
With advancement in the technology, numerable gadgets have been invented which have made our lives much easier. In health look at medical advancements Chemotherapy can help cure cancer for example. Also we can use it to communicate to long distance family and friends.
In the las time cell phone is the most important thing in our life. we use it to see how people are when something happens. But also with the advancement in the communication technology we can be easily be bugged. No privacy to ourselves anymore.
Good year 2016 for alls. Best regards.
Technology enables humans to extend the sense, cognitive and muscle organs of the body to perform jobs, solve problems effectively with better possible observations, precise computational results in order to lead a better life and extend longevity. Although technology has its own unintended side effects, the benefits outweigh its negative consequences.
There are so many thoughtful concerns in the question being considered. As I muse on the concept of technology in an historical sense, I admire the introduction of the wheel (at one time it was an innovation of modern technology) and recognize that the invention allowed the conveyance of much material, a trait that continues to benefit mankind in so many ways. As they looked into the distant future, the naysayers of the past could have warned that the wheel would be used to transport the vehicles of war as they attempted to make a case against its use. Do we stop investigating the benefits of technology because of the chance of misuse? I consider it wiser to recognize that human motive is involved and social change in human behavior is necessary to implement any new technology in a fruitful fashion.
People use the technology in different ways. I do not think the technology itself is good or bad. People can use it for good or bad ways. What 'good' or 'bad' mean in this context, I'm not sure. Maybe people contains too much with technology, which can be bad, can isolate people even more.
I use technology to interface RG, i.e. a Mac computer. In this case technology is good since it is usefull.

Yes, definitely, I believe that modern technology has to serve the human being. Some of these technologies have brought controversy. As in stem cells; when scientists in 1998 successes get cell stem from human embryos and cultured in vitro. It's that time there is controversy in the medical and ethical aspect and other legal such as; social and economic, all these aspects are interconnected.
Dear All:
This is an interesting debate. I am sure that all comments are valid and this issue can be seen from both ends.
A knife can very useful tool to cut stuff, on the other hand it can be considered as a very dangerous tool if misused. Similarly, modern technologies are very useful if used and implemented correctly. Otherwise such technologies may create real disasters to human. Many thanks for providing me this opportunity to express my view.
Technology is neither good or bad, it is circumstantial. It is what we make it. .
D. S. L. CARDWELL quote summarizes my thoughts:
"There are, as we have seen, a number of different modes of technological innovation. Before the seventeenth century inventions (empirical or scientific) were diffused by imitation and adaption while improvement was established by the survival of the fittest.
Now, technology has become a complex but consciously directed group of social activities involving a wide range of skills, exemplified by scientific research, managerial expertise, and practical and inventive abilities.
The new technologies has changed the way people communicate. There are more communications of ideas, goods, discoveries... such a huge amount of informations affects the way the brain works (processing and storing information). With the new technologies, there is a new way of using different body parts (e.g. hand and fingers), and interpreting different kind of signs at the same time (audio-visual) which also affects the brain and guarantees the development of more mental skills and habilities. If they are popularizad, they will allow people all around the world (urban and rural areas alike) to have more access to science and technology itself. Consequently, new technology are good for they can contribute to erradicate poverty, if used wisely, of course.
Yes, "Technology is neither good or bad". But some people are bad. There is not much but it's enough to mischief. Technical progress is huge, and people must learn to live with it. And it is not always easy.
We "boys" (age 68 :-) have seen the end of the steam engines, retreat of tubes, the beginnings of transistors and integrated circuits (first with three transistors :-) - and the associated development of informatics etc. It completely changed human behavior (conduct of society).
Yes, we have to live with it :-)
And the younger ones too.
Use of new technology in schools is nothing new anymore. Today we can hardly think of teaching effectively without books and overheads; these are hardly controversial technologies. In fact, more than 60 years ago, before many of us were even born, a news about 'distance learning' appeared in one of the oldest Iranian newspaper [1]. It was about using TV in UK schools to assist teaching the students at the start of the new academic year in 1957. Maybe more than half a century ago to most readers the use of TV technology for such purpose was a controversial issue. For many of us, it may still be!
[1] Ettelaat Daily (1957), “Teaching via TV - in Persian,”
Modern technology to me is good because it is now a way of life and everyone needs to port to it
It certainly is both good and bad.
Derpending fro the perspective, you'll surely find a whole diversity of arguments, for, or against, modern technologies.
I personally wouldn't like to fight against the advances of time. We'll have to adapt to the bad sides of the technological future.
Happy New Year, dear Shafagat.
(dear Brenda, with more than 8 million reasoning minds, so diverse and yet so close, it is inevitable to get similar questions, here. As it is, I wouldn't mind answering them all...)
Dear,
Sometimes modern technology is good for us because it helps us in studying, working etc. But I can say that its bad because 1 robots is removed from workplace many peoples.

Dear all,
I am fully agree with all your comments. But, most of the answers have broad meaning. So, I think if we mention, the type of technologies , then our answers will be more veritable .

Dear colleagues,
Good Day,
"This is the whole point of technology. It creates an appetite for immortality on the one hand. It threatens universal extinction on the other. Technology is lust removed from nature."
– Don DeLillo
Modern technology such as the spoon, we can deal with medication and can deal with the food.
The answer can be given by a very simple test:
*Shut down the electric power of your home and try to live for a week!
Science and technology is intrinsically good. It is developed by humans and for humans. As everything in life, it is how the people, and particularly the common people use it that can be good or bad for themselves. For comfort, creativity and development, or for discomfort, stupidity or destruction.

Modern technologies are always meant for comfort and convenience to human well beings depending on how they are applied. But they are no longer suitable for empowering our inner well beings.
Modern technology, good or bad for human?
Agreed modern technology do bring both good (e.g. improve productivity & efficiency) and bad (e.g. cyber attack & speeding) to human beings depend how we use it or abuse it. The modern technology just like other tools e.g. a knife whether we want to use it to cut fruits or abuse it by hurting others. The decision is in our hands.
The use of various types of multiple technologies is spreading widely. Nevertheless, in the field of sports and physical activities the effects were negative in terms of social life style and healthy life style respectively. Instead of developing athletes and taking advantage of such technology, it affects our social, behavioral and health life style to virtual reality as its entity itself. Families are communicating via smart mobiles, iPods, Ipads and other forms of virtual sphere of spatial and temporal ecology more often than commuting to each other physically. The sedentary life styles are prevalence among children, adolescents, and adults for both genders.
Happy New Year. It is very top question. For my point of view, it has good and bad effects as everything has good and bad sides.
Modern technology when insists on "replacement" of material things rather than "repairing", makes us to question our knowledge on technology.
Human rust for excellence is never ending . It will continue till the existence of mankind on this planet. The latest example is the testing of Hydrogen Bomb by North Korea shaking the neighbouring country like Japan , South Korea . We continue to indulge in mass destruction using the reach of the technology , the another facet of technology . Good or bad , you decide . And you decide it as per your perception and priority.
Both good and bad depending on how we make use of it. While it has made life more convenient in many ways, it has also complicated it just as much, or more. On a macro level the fears lie in the misuse of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare as are those of increased GMO usage to meet food production needs. On a more micro level, easy addiction to smart phones is causing queer connects and disconnects. On a cognitive level, we are having to cope with enormous information overload whilst our brains' processing capabilities aren't able to change at the same pace. On a cultural level, it is creating increased dependence on itself and a pervading attitude of consumerism with newer, updated versions being available all the time, leading people to value things lesser and lesser. Most importantly, it fixates us to the materiality of things, rather than enabling us to look beyond it.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"What new technology does is create new opportunities to do a job that customers want done."
--- Tim O'reilly.
Actually it depends how we are using it. We can use a knife to cut a mango. We can also use the same knife to kill someone.
Dear Shafagat,
It has both DIMENSIONS in it. Good in the sense, like this RG, we can communicate across boundaries in real time even though we do not know each other and still can learn, which was not possible earlier. One example.
Bad in the sense, human beings are more addicted to technology. Respect and spend more time with the gadgets rather than their loved ones. One example.
Thus, starting from individual human beings (like each of us), modern technology has captured the minds and lives of billions of people around the globe in all the areas, WHICH WE DO NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL ON IT.
When we do not have a control on anything, the best way is to either GO WITH THE WIND or WAIT AND SEE. I guess, all of us are doing both. What else we can do ?.
Regards.
Sekar Gopal.

"All technology does is give us back to ourselves. So to be anti-technology in a sense is to be anti-human."
----- Joshua Cohen
While technology can be used (and has been used) for evil --even for destroying the world--, it is what has allowed humanity to thrive. Technology is one of the qualities that distinguish humans, like language or art. There were no humans until they created an artificial environment between them and nature. What is changing today is the conscience of humanity about their relationship with the natural environment. We increasingly want a technology that allows us to relate to nature in a more harmonious way.

Hi all
Modern Technology has now become a need, a necessity and we can't turn the clock back. I thas many benefits and some drawbacks, It is not a panacia of all the ills.
I feel 'We should not become a slave to technology but make technology our slave'.
I agree Prof Vibha Sharma. I guess, our life is already in the hands of technology. All aspects of our life processes is controlled by technology for example, mobile phones, computer.... etc.
Do you think that are we able to live for a week without touching our mobile. Especially kids, they are treating mobile as their third hand
Dear Clleagues
I Think that modern technology is neither good or bad, it depends on the minds of humans whether to use the modern technology for construction or destruction .
I agree with Ali Sabea Hammood. Technological innovation can be a boon or can create vast destruction depending on how it is used. Nuclear technology is a glaring example. Even in day to day applications of mobile technology or internet both are useful if properly used and harmful if it is abused.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
...."Importance of Technology in Healthcare
The importance of technology in healthcare can be summarized with this single sentence: “Technology saves lives”. Some of the objectives that healthcare information technology has fulfilled include:
Health technology has improved organization and efficiency. It has helped eliminate ambiguity and every record right from the billing to diagnostic and treatment can be maintained for easy access for healthcare providers. By using software and hardware tools, profiles of patients can be created so doctors can provide standardized treatment. This helps improve patient outcomes and thus reduces cost of health care."....

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"Technology can become the “wings” that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before—if we will allow it."
----- Jenny Arledge
I think modern technology has a lot of benefits some of which are listed below:
1) It can facilitate many tasks
2) It can make communication easier
3) It can facilitate teaching and learning
4) It can save many lives
To make it short, modern technology is good for human as long as we control it rather than being controlled by it.
