Artificial intelligence is the field within computer science that seeks to explain and to emulate, through mechanical or computational processes, some or all aspects of human intelligence. Included among these aspects of intelligence are the ability to interact with the environment through sensory means and the ability to make decisions in unforeseen circumstances without human intervention.
Artificial intelligence has been used in a wide range of fields including : Computer science , Finance, Hospitals and medicine, Heavy industry Online and telephone customer service , Transportation Telecommunications maintenance , Toys and games, Music, Aviation , Marketing Main article: Marketing and artificial intelligence, News, publishing and writing.
Various tools of artificial intelligence are also being widely deployed in homeland security, speech and text recognition, data mining, and e-mail spam filtering.

AI application domain is very broad, few enclosed research publications are AI application related. Even our research related to Human gesture recognition system and its noise removal is also an application of AI.

and also it is use for decision support and wisdom technology. Without AI you have to separate texts into data (words, numbers etc.) and use data processing. With AI you are able to process wisdom.
Artificial Intelligence - science and technology to create intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs; property of intelligent systems to perform creative functions that are traditionally considered the prerogative of man.
AI is associated with a similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but not necessarily limited to biologically plausible methods.
It differs from the understanding of artificial intelligence John McCarthy, when starting from the position that artificial systems are not required to be repeated in the structure and function of the structure and processes occurring in it, inherent in biological systems. Proponents of this approach believe that the phenomena of human behavior, his ability to learn and adapt is a consequence of it is the biological structure and features of its functioning.
These include several directions. Neural networks are used to solve fuzzy and complex issues such as the recognition of geometric shapes or clustering objects. The genetic approach is based on the idea that an algorithm can be more efficient if the best characteristics borrow other algorithms ( "parents"). A relatively new approach, which seeks to create a stand-alone program - an agent that interacts with the external environment, called Agent approach.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence exhibited by machines. In computer science, the field of AI research defines itself as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving". As machines become increasingly capable, mental facilities once thought to require intelligence are removed from the definition. For example, optical character recognition is no longer perceived as an exemplar of "artificial intelligence", having become a routine technology. Capabilities currently classified as AI include successfully understanding human speech, competing at a high level in strategic game systems (such as Chess and Go), self-driving cars, intelligent routing in Content Delivery Networks, and interpreting complex data.

I think this is a good answer for the question raised by our colleague Shafagat Mahmudova
Why Artificial Intelligence Needs a Task Theory --- And What It Might Look Like

The concept of "task" is at the core of artificial intelligence (AI): Tasks are used for training and evaluating AI systems, which are built in order to perform and automatize tasks we deem useful. In other fields of engineering theoretical foundations allow a thorough evaluation of designs by methodical manipulation of well-understood parameters with a known role and importance; this allows an aeronautics engineer, for instance, to systematically assess the effects of wind speed on an airplane's performance and stability. No framework exists in AI that allows this kind of methodical manipulation: Performance results on the few tasks in current use (cf. board games, question-answering) cannot be easily compared, however, similar or different. The issue is even more acute with respect to artificial *general* intelligence systems, which must handle unanticipated tasks whose specifics cannot be known beforehand. A *task theory* would enable addressing tasks at the *class* level, bypassing their specifics, providing the appropriate formalization and classification of tasks, environments, and their parameters, resulting in more rigorous ways of measuring, comparing, and evaluating intelligent behavior. Even modest improvements in this direction would surpass the current ad-hoc nature of machine learning and AI evaluation. Here we discuss the main elements of the argument for a task theory and present an outline of what it might look like for physical tasks.
The domain of artificial intelligence is huge in breadth and width. While proceeding, one consider the broadly common and prospering research areas in the domain of AI −
The word Task is not a proper message for the artificial intelligence .The question of task starts with the determination, concentration & with a specific purpose for the self development or for the guideline ,for the friends ,& the members of family .
So to say task to remain the base of our intelligence . Our intelligence cannot be measured as it has the direct relevance with our mind & brain & with our concentration & the silence environment it help to touch the inner urge & divinity within which may help to reach to our passage of life.
With this artificial intelligence has no base as it is nothing but the showman ship to impress to other with may indirectly go for wrong direction .
I believe Expert Systems has been the most commercially successful segment of Artificial Intelligence (AI), although robotics has really come to the forefront in recent years. I can remember some Chinese scientists saying that they had invented a robot for use taking care of patients in long-term care but have not heard much about it in recent years. It would make sense to use machines to do the heavy lifting in healthcare, where injured backs are common. But how do you turn high tech into high touch? Many demented patients are frightened anyway, never mind having a machine putting them on the commode!
However, the work that is done by the brains of humans and other creatures was grossly underestimated in the early days of AI. I had a friend who studied under Claude Shannon at MIT. Shannon wanted my friend to create a model of Piaget's theory on the learning of children using RELAYS! They must have had wheelbarrows full of relays that were donated by a wealthy alumnus, and didn't realize that just doing even a partial emulation with transistors would fill up warehouses.
Our brains, and all brains, are really amazing, and it will be a long time before we can build anything like the redundant, massively parallel analog computing machines that they are. We have a long way to go. :-)
Any computing system that is able to modify it's own programming is considered to be intelligent. Self awareness is not required but may occur. Some rules and limits are used to avoid disasters.
