Hi All,
I'm currently completing my MRes research project on interoception. My research question is: Can interoceptive ability (i.e., accuracy, sensibility and metacognition) predict stress responses. Our dependent variable is change in HR during TSST (i.e., average HR during job interview subtracted from baseline HR). Our IVs are the 3 levels of interoception stated above. We are investigating whether any of the 3 can individually predict the stress response. We are also investigating whether an anxious disposition moderates this relationship. For this we used questions from the PANAS-X and STAI_S as our measure of state anxiety and BSI-53 anxiety subscale as our measure of trait anxiety.
My project is a secondary data analysis using data selecting from the InMe study (Interoceptive iNsight and Metacognitive Efficacy beliefs). I wasn't involved in the design of the experiment but I've got this data from the PANAS-X (17 I feel Attentive; 9. I feel Enthusiastic; 16. I feel Determined; 15. I feel Nervous; 22. I feel happy) and STAI_S (6. I feel upset; 9. I feel frightened; 13. I feel jittery; 18. I feel confused; 11. I feel confident; I feel in-control) combined, however, I'm struggling to appropriately explain why we used questions from each as our state anxiety measure. We used questionnaires from the PANAS-X because the STAI_S doesn't have a positive emotion scale. However, there was no real method around selection of the questions. Also, the two questionnaires used different scales, however, we chose to use the same scale as the STAI_S which is on a 4-point Likert Scale.
I guess my question is - can anybody point me in the right direction to find previous research that address combining self-report questionnaires and the methodology behind doing this?
N.B. I've attached the questionnaire that was used for the study.
Thank you.
BW,
Edward
