Which depression model for rats do you prefer? What is the best way to induce depression in rats? We would like to start some projects in this field and we do not have any experience....
Allow me to start with a direct answer: "There is None" to the best of my knowledge, there is no concrete evidence that rats can demonstrate any condition that resembles human affective disorder. But, stress and stress-related behavior cam be modeled in rats in different ways, depending on, what is the question in hand you are trying to explore.
may I refer you to an earlier discussion on the subject here at RG. as well as to these books:
New Models for Depression, 1998, Editors: Ebert D and Ebmeier K.P.) Advances in Biological Psychiatry, Vol. 19,
Animal models in biological psychiatry. by: Allan V Kalueff, 2006: New York: Nova Science.
Animal Models of Behavioral Analysis, Editor Jacob Raber, Humana Press, 2010
and this book chapter by Eva González-et al. 2016, Animal Models of Depression, Herbal Medicine in Depression, Chapter 4, pp 119-133.
Thank you very much for your answer. Of course, we would like to test depression like behavior. I hope, that these books help me to find the best way how to induce depression like behavior in rats...
