I have solid hen egg White lysozyme. It is given in units, 49700 units/mg. I need to make a 30,000 U/ ul stock and then need to make 2 ml of lysis buffer. The final concentration of this has to be 120 U/ul, so how much volume should I ask? Just confused with the units. This is for lysis buffer.

If you need 2ml lysis buffer at 120units/ul, and your stock is 30,000units/ul, the formula is:
30,000*V1=120*2000
V1=120*2000/30000
V1= 8ul
In order to get 2ml lysis buffer at a concentration of 120units/ul, you need 8ul of of your 30,000units/ul stock.

It depends on how large you want your stock to be. Let's say you make 100ul of your stock solution, that means that you will have 100* 30,000units in your solution (the ul cancels out), or 3,000,000 units.
Using this, you can calculate how many milligrams of your Lysozyme you have to add.
3,000,000units/49,700units/mg = 60,63mg of Lysozyme.
With that being said, I am not sure how soluble lysozyme is in water, and this solution is going to consist of 60% lysozyme and 40% water by weight. You may need to heat it in a water bath and vortex it thoroughly to coax it into dissolving.
Edit: On second thought, maybe you want to consider making a lower concentration for the stock solution, because I can't really envision all of that lysozyme dissolving in this little water. You can try on a small scale and scale it up if you want to, but I think going for a 10x more dilute solution may be a better option...

Say I wanted to add the lysozyme straight into my buffer.
My final conc is 120U/ uL and final volume is 2000ul (2ml). That would mean 120U/ul *2000ul which is 240,000 units total. My powder is 49700 units per mg. Times that by 4.8 to get 240,000 units which corresponds to 4.8mg. Is this okay?
