Hi, colleagues. I am encountering a problem regarding the calculation of lime buffering capacity. You see that the lime buffering capacity (LBC) of soils has the unit of cmol (OH-)/kg/pH. However, some authors converted this into mg CaCO3/kg/pH. What did they base on for the conversion ? Pls help. Thanks

OH− + H+⇌ H2O
1 mole OH− and 1 mole H+
While,
CaCO3(s) + 2 H+(aq) → Ca2+(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)
1 mole CaCO3 react with 2 mole H+
Therefore,
½ mole CaCO3 and 1 mole H+
Or
½ mole CaCO3 and 1 mole OH−
Consider that the Molar mass of CaCO3 = 100.0869 g/mol
1 mole CaCO3 = 100.0869 g CaCO3
½ mole CaCO3 = 50.0435 g CaCO3
Therefore,
50.0435 g CaCO3 = 1 mole OH−
Or
50043.5 mg CaCO3 = 100 cmole OH−
Or
500.435 mg CaCO3 = 1 cmole OH−
