The crude answer is "not at all". However, the research of evidence is very hard in surgery and few operations (open, laparoscopic or robotic) had reached a sufficient level of evidence according to the Oxford Standards. On the other hands, the reasearch and surgical innovations still continue to try improving the quality of life of patients, despite some methodological concerns. Recent publications reported the excellent outcomes of lap PD, but they are confined to single centers experiences with more than good laparoscopic skills. Therefore, such results are, in my opinion, hardly reproducible in other facilities. I am strongly convinced that robotic surgery could overhelm many of the technical drawbacks of laparoscopy when dealing with pancreatic surgery, includind node dissection and anastomosis. In the future, the robotic surgery add reproducibility to many complex operations. Lastly, miniinvasive surgery is, however, of great interest in cancerous patients with poor prognosis in order to reduce time for beginning chemotherapy or adjuvant therapy.

I do agree with Dr Lopo,there is no evidence based study and there is unlikely to be one in future as well.Very few centers are practicing in India.It is a technical exercise and claim the same benefits of MIS.On the downside we donot hear much about the complications However in high volume cetres,MIS PD is well reproducible.

The most import factor is patient selection. Young patients with relatively benign disease can benefit from a laparoscopic PD. In contrast, patient with larger pancreatic adenocarcinoma will probably not benefit. The laparoscopic PD will very difficult in tumors adjacent to the mesenteric vein. 

No, there is not. No evidence. 

However, the preliminary results, sometime containing also a quite big number of patients, are promising. 

The problem is: are there advantages performing PD laparoscopically?
