I am working with ulcerative colitis. In experiment setting I need standard drug for treatment and as treated group (disease control group) will you suggest me any standard drug?
Almost all IBD guidelines refer mesalazine as "gold" or standard treatment for mild to moderate cases (Mayo classification). Nearly 15-20% of the patient series need to add a local-topical steroid as a add on therapy in order to maintain control-remission.
The effect of mesalazine can be obtained only through topical route. systemic effects are only responsible for side effects. if you need an intravenous only drug, the optimal drug would be tnf antagnosists e.g. infliximab which also also rapid onset action. steroid would not be the first choice choice as long term mucosal healing effect and long term clinical efficacy is quesitonable with this drug.
