I'm hoping to use the Dextran Sodium Sulfate (DSS) to induce colitis in a strain of mice I suspect may have predisposition to increased severity of colitis, among other things.
I'd like to employ multiple cycles of DSS administration (each ~7 days) to mimic relapse-remission cycles of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A Nature Protocols article suggests 3 rounds over 52 days with periods of recovery in between them. However, I have noticed that elsewhere in the literature, fewer than 3 cycles and different (mainly shorter) experimental time frames have been used. The nature of this model lends itself to modification, however, I don't force any particular additional requirements or considerations due to my mice model. For others that have used DSS chronically in mice for similar purposes, how did you proceed (i.e. followed the standard protocols or modified them for various reasons which I may have not considered).
Thanks!
