Was informed by service provider that a NGS project is put on hold pending backorder to Illumina's RiboZero bacterial rRNA depletion kit. Looking for somebody who can either still has that kit, or can recommend a suitable alternative. According to Illumina, delivery before the middle of September cannot be guaranteed due to production (QC) issues, probably even longer.
RiboMinus from Invitrogen is a solid alternative. It's platform agnostic, so it's totally compatible with Illumina.

Depending on the project goals, I I would be inclined to omit the rRNA depletion step and generate more reads per sample to provide the depth you want to achieve.
Thanks for the feedback. We were looking at 18 samples, Laurent, and the initially told us the kit was backordered and had QC issues which would mean a 6-8 week delay. Intensive mailing and calling resulted in them shipping in stock kits in a few days. The lesson is: don't trust salespeople to know about stock inventory.
I'll keep RiboMinus in mind, Jason, in case it should become necessary again.
Thomas, considering the abundance of rRNA in bacteria relative to mRNA, I think I would have to massively increase sequence depth to get reasonable results...
