I created a 3D model of human head with different layers in AMIRA. I am able to save it in .stl format. But to get the solid geometry in ANSYS it is to be converted into .iges format. Do i need any third software or it is possible by any other method, please suggest.
I'm not sure if this is the best solution but SolidWORKS should be able to convert imported .stl files into .iges (providing it's not too complex). I'd ask around your institute to see if anyone has a copy. If nothing else you could send me the file and I could have a bash.
Hi, the common way to convert tessellated data from CT / MRI scans into CAD Formats is to use a reverse engineering software like geomagic or 3-matic by materialize. They have a lot of automated tools and wizards which finally generate a nurbs based solid model in IGES, Step or parasolid format.
Autodesk Inventor 2017 Pro does suport import of stl and export to .iges files - I would try it this way.
There are several pieces of software specifically designed for translation and viewing that can do the job. I use PolyTrans by Okino Computer Graphics (Ontario, Canada). PolyTrans and NuGraf software are specifically designed for 2D and 3D translation of data from CAD, Animation, Medical and Scientific file formats with many add-on packages specifically designed for software categories (especially CAD formats). I have been especially impressed by the customer support ([email protected]) and their ability to answer very technical questions regarding specific translation or format needs One word of caution regarding the IGES file format, this is an older file format and there are many variations that have been developed over the years. Some software may not read some of the variant formats even though they all use the same extension and appear to be the same.
Finally, i am able to convert the file into .igs with the help of SOLIDWORKS and also i can now import it to ANSYS. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. :)
