Well, i'm very interested in urban bryophytes but distribution of these are different compared to forest.
For this reason i like research the distribution, diversity and if is possible the composition in a little region of my city.
You need to do a field study. First, define your study area. Then, decide how you want to sample the area, for example using belt transects or random plots.
Species diversities is then determined using the Shannon-Weaver Diversity Index (H) : H = (Pi) (logn Pi), where Pi = ni/N, ni = number of individuals of species i, and N = total number of individuals.
You can also visit your local herbarium and look at voucher specimens :)
In cities bryophytes are occur on the old buildings and compound walls, so use a quadrate ( size depend on the area) of 25X25 CM or less than.
