Does EUCAST have clinical breakpoints or expert rules for veterinary use?
EUCAST does not have clinical breakpoints or expert rules specifically for veterinary use. Human clinical breakpoints may be inappropriate for veterinary isolates, which may be from a variety of animals. Among different animals antimicrobial pharmacodynamics may vary widely. In this situation epidemiological cut-offs (ECOFFs) are a logical alternative to human clinical breakpoints, and ECOFFs have been used in preference to clinical breakpoints in veterinary resistance surveillance studies. EUCAST expert rules have been devised for human clinical use and, for the reason mentioned above, some may be inappropriate for veterinary situations although many would apply equally to human and veterinary situations.
In my research for antibioresistance of bovine Brucella strains, I have used the same band for E-test that human Brucella strains.
I think it's possible to use the same antibiotics discs in animals and human, because it's the same molecule of antibiotic. In veterinerian lab, they used the same disc.
