Please can anybody share any research they've come across which examines if there is a relationship between Social Economic Status (any of the factors) and Zika Virus? Thanks
The main message of the report is simple: it is estimated that, only between 2015 and 2017, the Zika virus has caused tangible losses of the gross domestic product (GDP) of 7,000 to 18,000 million dollars, which constitutes an immediate direct burden on the health and welfare systems that, in the long term, can affect the deserved advances obtained during decades in the areas of health and social development. Greater investment in prevention, preparedness and response strategies would be profitable at the local, national and regional levels and would help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Poor people are more exposed, as they mostly work outsides; richer people work in offices.
Poor people cannot afford mosquitoe nets and repellants. The richer ones have AC, the poor ones do not. Etc. etc. If you enter Zika and socioeconomic in PubMed you will find quite a lot of papers addressing SES and Zika.
I agree. In addition, the Aedes mosquito does not travel that far. Individuals in lower SES tend to live in more crowded areas, and without air conditions. Thus, there is this association with ZIKV. Furthermore, the vast majority of patients we are seeing are immigrants from countries outside of the USA, and they have tended to have lower SES.
