Recently we investigate a medieval archaeological site (about 6 hectares) using geophysics. The site is located on an inter-flow area and is mainly composed from collapsed houses with a fortification structure in the center of the site. The curious fact I observed when I performed the measurement was related to the existence of thousands of Spermophilus citellus running around. Anyway, I became more intrigued after the data processing, when I noticed that these little creatures are speculating only those areas related to the collapsed houses. Evan the galleries are located only long-wise the site. No trace of them 100 meters outside the archaeological structures. This habitat is maybe favored by the loose soil generated by the former human inhabitants. Anyway, do you know something similar? Or maybe there are some clues regarding on how a community of Spermophilus choose their habitat? Maybe this is a silly question but I found the fact very interesting.Thank you!
