Hi everyone. I'm trying to write my 3rd year undergraduate dissertation and I want to analyze an ad campaign from a brand that launched 4 commercials that are less-than-two-minute to investigate how gender is interpreted in advertising and whether the commodification of feminism can still be empowering. I feel quite inexperienced if we talk about typical research methods and approaches, therefore what would you suggest me to do? My research will definitively take a qualitative approach, however I'm not so sure if I can apply semiotics on videos and if visual analysis means the same thing as semiotics, or if I should apply other type of analysis (e.g. textual), or mix two types of analyses. What would most advertisements use if I were to analyze the message of the campaign, the image, the background, and relate everything to current social-political times?
