I want to study specific protein sequences to better understand their functional properties. I think that such information from this group of animals may help in this understanding.
I think the 1-million-year age mark is just about to be broken, see e.g. Miller & Lambert (2013) :
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/242333099_Ancient_DNA_Towards_a_million-year-old_genome .
(So reconstruction of > 65-million-year-old dinosaur DNA might be out of paleogeneticists' reach for years to come.)
Supposed remains of dinosaur DNA and protein sequences have been discussed some time ago by Mary H. Schweitzer and colleagues, see e.g.
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/15437031_Detecting_dinosaur_DNA?ev=prf_cit .
