Normally the Dionex Summit HPLC consists of the ASI-100, the P680 pump unit, a solvent rack and the TCC-100 column oven connected via an USB connection from the pump unit to the computer. Is this the case?

Thank you, Ludwig Gruber, for your response. Yes, we (only) use P680, ASI-100 and TCC-100. Both, P680 and TCC-100, are separately connected via USB to the computer. ASI-100 is connected to the P680 COM port. We found a quick and easy solution:

External control is performed via the 25-pin D-sub connector at the ASI-100 rear panel.

Depending on the settings, relay 4 can be used for this task. Relay 4 must be set ON (factory default): Setup >> Configuration >> … (Inject response at relay 4 can be turned on or off here).

When the internal Motorized Switching Valve (MSV, 6 port injection valve at the ASI-100) switches to Inject (load/inject), relay 4 switches for 1 second: This signal is used for remote triggering at the ICP-MS instrument (start trigger).

Since we have no fitting remote cable, we soldered a hand-made one: For Inject Out pins 10 and 11 at the 25-pin D-sub connector are use. The remote port at the ICP-MS rear panel is a standard 9-pin RS-232 port.

One problem is left: The MassHunter (version 5.1) batch starts with the first transmitted signal, but the acquisition of sample 1 do not stop after the given acquisition time. We are looking for the correct setup so that every injection starts the next sample of the batch. (With former MassHunter versions this was no issue. We hope to find the correct software settings.)

Why I asked for the column oven was the column oven has also an output in a PS/2 layout. This may work sometimes more reliable than the 25-pin D-sub connector of the sampler.

We have no experience with MassHunter Setup due to the fact we own other brands...
