As we all use PPE as a part of combating COVID-19, and many people has symptoms of hypercapnia due to long period wearing mask and rebreathing the exhalt air, so what is the side effect and other sequale of this habit?
Could be but if we look at the pore size, we cant get benefit from the virus by keeping even N95 mask on, as the pore size is 300nm and virus 100nm....look at the obvious things
There is no such evidence that N95 masks cause hypoxia or any other abnormality in body. Till now, there are no reported adverse effect on brain or heart functioning seen amongst users. It however, increases breathing/ nasal resistance and breathing exhaled air over and over again can make one feeling dizzy. Prolonged use of tight-fitting face masks, however, can cause severe headaches.
Any side-effects due to N-95 masks are acceptable if you do not want to jeopardize or lose your life!
The side-effects of N-95 masks are related to duration of their continuous use or inappropriate fitting mask. If judiciously used side-effects can vary from claustrophobia to skin injury, and in the worse scenario as described (1).
However, these side-effects are nothing compared to jeopardizing or losing the life due to non-use in high-risk hospital situations particularly during procedures in the COVID-19 patients during their stay in ICU.
