I knew gag only as an hiv virus. I was wondering if the protein gag is conserved across all the retrovirus like htlv1 or even in non-human ones?
The Gag protein is a capsid protein that is found in all retroviruses as well as retrotransposons in diverse hosts (plants, arthropods, fungi, etc.). Gag is an acronym for Group antigens the gene can encode for a polyprotein.
