I'm growing tissue from lost pregnancies. The media used prior had sodium pyruvate but the replacement media from Life Tech does not contain it. Does anyone know if I need to buy and add that to the media before it can be used?
Sodium pyruvate is a supplement added to improve cell survival in culture. Pyruvate is an intermediate in the glycolytic pathway, so addition improves the cell's ability to metabolize glucose in the media to produce energy. Removing this nutrient can have negative effects, but it is generally not "necessary" for cell culture.

It is better to add sodium pyruvate to the media to facilitate and standardized the culture .
