Been doing assay for my research in using fungal culture as biofumigant. I did a two-bottom plate assay where a seven-day old fungal biocon were covered with a freshly transferred fungal pathogen grown in another plate. I sealed the two bottom plates using plastic wrap. It was so effective that the pathogen didn't grow. Can I attribute the effect to the supposed volatiles produced by my biocon agent? Or the decreased oxygen concentration due to biocon respiration could have also influenced its failure to grow?
