I want to undergo an experimental study. However, I am not sure whether it is safe to sterilise a solution that has been changed to pH 1. Hope to get comments and suggestions from RG members. Thank you!
The general answer is that it's not an acid hazard. However, if there are weak acids , e.g. RCOOH, some may volatilise. Could you not sterilise then the pH in a laminar flow cabinet?
I think it is possible. However, i want the solution to sustain longer in storage without being contaminated with any foreign growth. We will have a try with the suggestion as well. Thank you Prof. Paul Milham!
Next to the practical effect of losing volatile components I think it depends very much on your method of sterilization: heat or gas.
If you chose for heat than the constitution of the solution might change, in addition heating will increase a corrosive action of the solution on your vesselwall. probably better is to choose sterilisation with gas if that is allowed.
