As far as my experience is concerned the CFA may or may not be applied before SEM because whenever SEM is applied the whole model is refined, i.e., it is applied only after refining the model priori which is as good as applying CFA beforehand. But as at times applying CFA might be very handy as it becomes input for the SEM and checks the model priori beforehand. What say all of you...
