Curious if anyone has knowledge or experience with the potential quenching interaction between iron oxide and fluorescent probes? I am working with NIR probes and trying to determine if my issue is one of degree of labeling or a potential quenching effect. Thank you for any literature or anecdotes.
Hi Thomas, are you still facing that problem of quenching? I have had similar experiences with magnetite nanoparticles (NP) and after a little lit review I came to know that many nanoparticles are known to be efficient quenchers of fluorescence (iron oxide being one of them). As far as I know, it all depends on the distance of the fluorophore from the nanoparticle surface, and that is why fluorescent iron oxide core shell particles can also be prepared in conjugation with dyes. And of course, the ratio of NP:fluorophore plays an important role. If you have made any progress or have come across any other info, do let me know as I am also working on similar problems.
