During mass spectral analysis several additional lines are observed along with molecular ion due to the cleavage recombination. This creates a problem whether an impurity has been incorporated in the compound to be analyzed.Can we prevent such additional lines ?
From your question it is unclear, what kind of mas analyzer you are using and the ionization technique employed. High resolution mass analyzers will give better quality spectra and softer ionization techniques may reduce the fragmentation.
Additional peaks arising due to the presence of isotopes cannot be avoided. But the peaks arising out of molecular fragmentation can be avoided by using soft ionisation methods.
I think decreasing concentration will leads to decrease in such line. if mass spectrometer is of high precision, try to take concentration in PPB level. this may lead to avoid line arising because of isotope as well as other fragmentation.

We can prevent number of lines are obtained in mass spectroscopy along with molecular ion by using soft ionization techniques such as CI, FB and FAB .
