I want to see what to expect when I run an RP-HPLC assay to figure out what my peaks mean in terms of the compound detected. The only difference between Vanillin and Vanillyamine is the aldehyde functional group becoming a primary amine via recombinant E. Coli expressing pET-CAR/PPTase and pRSF-CvTA/AlaDH.

What is the pH of the solvent system you plan to use for RP-HPLC? And what about the stationary phase?
Could it be that the primary amine will be charged? That might result in earlier elution as compared to vanillin.

In selective retention there are other factors as well that affect retention times, like the polarity/selectivity of the column and the mobile phase(s).
