In Bangladesh soil fertility decrease day by day. Population is increase. To feed the people, we should maintain sustainable soil fertility. What are the probable factor of increasing soil fertility.
Soil health is improved through the use of legumes, green manures and cover crops, incorporation of plants with the capacity to release phosphate from the soil into rotations, use of composts and animal manures, adoption of zero-tillage, and use of inorganic fertilizers where needed.
This can be enhanced through organic and inorganic fertilizers to the soil. Nuclear techniques provide data that enhances soil fertility and crop production while minimizing the environmental impact.
1. Technology can play a key role in making agriculture more sustainable
2. The role of Agro Cares
3. Soil fertility can be maintained and improved
4. Crop rotation improves the physical and chemical conditions of soil and thus improves the overall fertility (Nitrogen-fixing legumes such as soybeans and alfalfa in crop rotations fix atmospheric nitrogen into the soil through root nodules. This nitrogen is then available for subsequent crops )
5. Nuclear techniques provide data that enhances soil fertility and crop production while minimizing the environmental impact.
A very pertinent question in the present situation. There are several means to improve soil fertility, through the adoption of suitable cropping systems, integrated nutrition management, precision input management, etc. Sustainable intensification of fallow land through legumes along with suitable tillage and nutrients management practices also a viable approach to improve soil fertility status. Overall sustainable soil fertility management approaches must reduce the over mining of the nutrients from the soil.
Almost all issues have been touched by Md. Abdul Kalam Azad on this aspect. In addition, it is important to test the soil to know the status. This will provide you with information on the condition of your soil for remedial action.....
Soil fertility degradation is becoming an alarming issue in developing countries as the countries are striving to increase production and productivity. Soil fertility can be kept in sustainable manner in two distinctive ways.
1. Improving soil fertility through;
a. Using eco-friendly organic fertilizers like compost and vermicompost; green manuring
b. Using minimum tillage to reduce destruction of soil structures
c. Managing soil micro-organisms through keeping application of chemical fertilizers and herbicides at minimum level to reduce risks of residual impacts.
d. Exploring the potential of soil and plant nutrition research and applying fertilizers based on the recommendations
2. Maintaining soil fertility
a. Familarizing contour farming and constructing soil erosion management structures
b. using crop rotation; cereals after legume crops and based on their positive impacts on soil fertility
c. Using cover crops to avoid wind erosion during off-season
d. Use wind breaks to minimize field soil fertility degradation from storms and animal and human induced soil losses
5. Take care of the types of irrigation we use in crop production so that soil is not washed during furrow and flood irrigation.
These are my minimum recommendations and try your best to utilize the information.
If our activities are sustainable, we will be sustainable on the earth and if not we are all working to distroy our source existence.
Soil fertility can be maintained by using following steps as written under
Least disturbances of soil via mechanical or physical processes (tillage) so as to expose lesser proportions of soil into sunlight or environmental air
Diversified crop rotation so as to use diverse quantities of crop with different spatial and temporal characteristics...like inclusion of legumes in the system
Use of cover crops / soil organic cover so as to enhance microbial proliferation in order to recycle nutrients
Use of organic amendments like FYM poluty manures vermicomposts press mud etc
Use of biologically active materials like biofertilisers etc
How do we look at regenerative farming....to be redefined and reoriented to increase soil fertility , unless associated with consequential crop response....
Soil fertility can be increased by Biofertilizer such As VAM, Nitrogen fixing bacteria, proper irrigation, addition of organic and inorganic fertilisers and to stop soil erosion
A integrated soil management approach, can play a vital role in this regards. viz zero-tillage, biofertilizer, compost fertilizer, green manuring plants cultivation etc.
In my opinion, using less tillage methods and using biofertilizers and organic fertilizers along with chemical fertilizers can help maintain soil fertility.
Soil fertility is the ability of the soil to sustainably supply nutrients to the growing plant. Numerous soil management practices can be done to sustain soil fertility however, most of them are difficult to achieve in order to address the food security problem. The reason is these practices are site specific.
The question is very valuable. Without food you can not live, and to ensure food security for the overincreasing world population, we have to produce more....however to increase the production we have to maintain sustainable soil fertility. To do this effectively, an Integrated management approach should be followed: use bio fertilizer, green manuring, zero tillage, mulching, use different compost fertilizer including vermi compost etc....
Dear ABDUL Aziz, I believe that chemical fertilizers, in the long run, deplete the soil; so it is necessary to use more and more chemical fertilizers to achieve the same results. For this reason, it is necessary and appropriate to use only and exclusively organic fertilizers and the alternation of crops possibly with plants that accumulate nitrogen in their roots such as leguminous plants.
soil fertility can be improve by use of multiple approach by organic farming farming will be good, bio fertilizer, crop rotation with legumes crops, ,use of bio char will be good one.
I wish to express my gratitude and best regards to you for your nice comments and contributions. Yes, you are correct. Thank you so much for your contributions.
Nice question it can be maintained by proper irrigation system, decrease in leakage of nutrients, addition of Biofertilizer and Growth promoting substances, addition of organic fertilisers and less dependence on pesticides etc
Soil fertility can increase adding organic matter to the soil, crop rotation, biofertilizer, biochar and also control the soil erosion, using cover crops and mulching etc.
By incorporating principles of appropriate crop rotation like cereals followed by legumes, use of organic manures, use of cover crop in the system, avoiding indiscriminate use of fertilizers, Inclusion of legumes in the system, use of organic mulches, use of bio fertilzers and bio ammendements etc
Soil fertility can be improved and maintained using different techniques. Now adays, integrated soil fertility management is the most recommended. For instance, green manuring, fallowing, crop rotation, conservation farming, compost and vermicompst application are few methods.
