I am studying the effect of solvatochromic dyes on the micellization of mixed catanionic surfactant mixtures in a various medium. I am new in this field; kindly provide me step by step protocol which explains how to use FTIR and NMR techniques to carry out such type of study.
Mainly solvatochromic effect related to change in color with different concentration of solvent. So UV-visible spectroscopy is best technique to determine absorption and emission spectra of compound. which give the specific absorption for different color.
One way to determine CMC by NMR would be to measure the transverse relaxation rate R2 (CPMG experiment) of the surfactant. You would expect to see the same R2, independent of surfactant concentration when that concentration is less than the CMC. Above the CMC, the R2 should increase dramatically due to the relatively slower tumbling micelle.
The solvatochromic effect is the effect caused by the influence of the solvent on the chromophoric groups of the dye. Color dyes. They absorb electromagnetic radiation in the visible part of the spectrum.
