I am conducting a study into the potential link between soil firmness (i.e. substrate compliance) and limb bone morphology, and I am interested to find out if there are established methods used to quantify substrate firmness. My main issue is that I will use extinct taxa in this study, so preferably some quantification that can be attributed to biomes or specific habitats would be ideal, although I understand that this may not be feasible.
