Can anyone with experience on working with Rapidly solidified melt spun alloys kindly let me know how to prepare SEM samples out of the same, as they ribbons are too thin (around 30 microns) and preparing them by conventional mechanical polishing methods, though done with fine Emery paper and cloth polishing is not working out as per the expectation. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
You mean hot mounting using Bakelite?
I have tried making using this method. However the sample is getting pulled off from some regions while polishing using Emery. Since they are so thin, so I'm using 2500 grit Emery paper directly followed by Diamond paste and colloidal silica polishing. But still in the SEM, a lot of pullouts are visible. Just trying to figure out what can be a better alternative..
For small specimens it is better to embed in PMMA or special epoxy for metallography (not as toxic). For polishing do not use any paper finer than 360, but start with something like 60 grit. For diamond polishing start with 6 micron grain size.

Refer to the attachment on "Stress Corrosion Cracking of 2826 MB Metglas".
The only steps that were carried out to produce the optical & the SEM photographs in the attached article; cutting the Rippon sample by a scissor, cleaning the cut sample with acetone, and gluing the sample at the sample holder by a conductor tape,i.e., copper tape.
