I'm involving in a 2-way FSI problem simulation (transient structural + Fluent) which includes big structural deformation. I have used very small time step for transient structural part as well as system coupling part. However, system coupling delivers "highly distorted elements error" every time I run the problem. When I run the transient structutal alone, everything is OK. But, when I run system coupling it return highly distorted elements error for the first iteration, even for very small time steps (1e-6 sec). The loading is a distributed pressure with a magnitude of 4000 Pa. Anyone has any idea how to solve this issue??

Check first your boundary conditions, if its ok, change the analysis option to small displacement transient or small displacement static according to your model.

As I mentioned in the question, the transient structural (running alone) works fine with the large deformation, but when it comes to the system coupling, it delivers that kind of highly distorted error!
Problem remains even with a very small loading value. I set the loading to 1 Pa, which is very small, but I still get "highly distorted error". Anyone can give me an advice?
If you use ANSYS APDL, you can go to Solution---Solution Controls---- Analysis option, and then change the default option to small displacement static or transient. Try this and I hope it can solve your problem.
Thanks again Walid, but I'm using Ansys workbench and I think the transient structural doesn't have that option.
A solution for this problem would be to use "under-relaxation" within the Fluent, when you have to define the dynamic mesh. A scale factor has to defined based on the problem.
I am having the same problem, Please let me know if you have got the solution.
The only solution I have found for this problem is to use "under-relaxation" inside of Fluent, when you have to define the dynamic mesh.

You mean that "under-relaxation factor" is Spring constant factor in dynamic mesh setup?
