I highly recommend a solvent extraction process. This is one of the simplest and most common methods for caffeine extraction.
Steps:
Crush the Tea Leaves: Begin by crushing or grinding the tea leaves to increase surface area for extraction.
Hot Water Extraction: Boil water and pour it over the crushed tea leaves. Caffeine is water-soluble, so it will dissolve into the water. Steep the tea leaves for about 5–10 minutes.
Evaporation: After steeping, the water contains caffeine. You can use evaporation to remove the water, leaving behind the caffeine in a more concentrated form.
Optional Solvent Extraction: Some processes use organic solvents like chloroform or dichloromethane to separate caffeine from the aqueous solution. The solvent will dissolve caffeine, and after separation, the solvent is evaporated, leaving caffeine behind.
Note: While organic solvents are efficient, they are not ideal for home-based extractions due to safety concerns.
