I have a drug, 125ug in lyophilized form. mW is 1255.42
If I add 250ul of D.H20 to this I get 0.5mg/ml solution. I need to have a final working concentration of between 1-5ug/ml to treat my cells.
I would like to treat my cells in the uM (1-10) range with this drug. How can I prepare a stock solution say of 10mM for example from which I can make my uM doses?
Could someone please explain if possible in steps how they get through this, I keep getting confused!

You have 125ug of your drug with a MW of 1255.42g/mol
You would like a 10mM stock solution of your drug
Assuming we are considering your lyophilized product as 100% pure:
1. The MW tells you that 1255.42g per 1 mole or 1255.42mg per 1 mmole.
2. Thus, 10mmole would be 1255.42mg*10 = 12554.2mg.
3. Therefore, in a 10mM solution, you would need 12554.2mg/L
4. You only have 125ug = 0.125mg.
5. Now you need to see how much volume (V) you can obtain with your quantitiy of your drug: V = 0.125mg*1000000uL/12554.2mg = 9.96uL
With 125ug you can make 9.96uL of a 10mM solution of your drug, which you then can use to prepare the desired dilutions for your experiments.

10mM=0.01M =0.01mol/L. but n=m/MW, so that m=n*MW=0.01mol*1255.42g/mol =12.5542g in 1 liter. which will be 12.5542mg in 1ml. which also will be 12.5542ug in 1uL. Lastly 12.5542ug*9.9568=125ug.
just dissolve your 125ug in 9.9568uL to get your 10mM.
