Hi: The most importance to identify macro fungus is the spore, morphology, spore diam also morphological of cultures on medium, rat of grow, pigments produce in culture medium elc.
Identification of bracket fungi depends on field observations such as nature of habitat, nature of fruit body e.g. texture, shape, color, hymenium layer etc., and microscopy such as nature of basidia or asci, spore, pattern and color of spore print etc. Classical taxonomy is still fundalmental in the identification of macrofungi. Best of luck.
Monographs/picture books of macrofungi is the only means of fast identification while on a foray. Please note that it is not always accurate and may just be cause of mis-identification of many african species of mushrooms.
I recommend Our book: East Asian Polypores (Nunez & Ryvarden 2001, vol. 1-2). Fungiflora, Oslo. Macro-and microscopical descriptions, but not Pictures. There is a good Japanese polypore flora with pictures that can be useful for many of your species. Dr. Tsutomu Hattori from FFPRI in Tsukuba is a very goog polypore taxonomist.
