When I freeze stocks of lentivirus, I take 2 mL of virus-containing media per cryotube and put them at -80C. How long will the virus stay viable? I have used them successfully after a month, but will the virus last for many months or a year at -80C? Will putting them at -120C extend their viability?

Storing them in -80c is enough. In my case, I have used them after 3 years without losing activity.

Extending my previous answer, Do not do repeated freeze-thawing. I suggest to store the virus in smaller volumes (enough for one infection). Good luck

I work with AAV vector, i store them at -80c and i didn't find any change in its viability. According to my co-supervisor, it can be store even for years.
