In a previous question I asked how to effectively model springs in Abaqus. However, I figured out the feature under Assembly -> springs/dashspots -> node to node Springs.
I have a cylinder with an o-ring on the outer diameter on each of the ends. I want to simulate this o-ring with a spring. I need the same number of springs as my number of elements which is close to 200 (aka 200 springs). These springs needs to be attached to two nodes. However, I am struggling to make these ~200 nodes on the cylinder edge. Is there any efficient way of making these nodes? If I make a plane cut, I get one node on each end, but then I need to make ~200 cuts. I tried to pattern the cut, but it did not work.
I am grateful for any tips.
This is what I am trying to replicate, where the outer nodes are fixed and the inner nodes are fixed to the cylinder. However, I do not know how to make the inner nodes efficiently.
David Forrestad Swensen At first glance, I thought it was a cylinder, but thanks for including the second picture for clarification. I was able to create a quick solution using scripting. This resulted in a model that I then processed in Abaqus Assembly to include reference points along the edges. You can use the attached model and pictures as a guide. While I haven't included all the reference points due to the time it would take to define coordinates for this specific geometry, you can achieve this by pre-processing the model in FreeCAD or another CAD software before importing it into Abaqus.
