I read in a journal that RNAi may occurred naturally as antiviral mechanisms. In biotechnology, it's also used for gene silencing. Recently, I read that in general, RNAi does contribute in gene up and down regulations. However, as it silence the gene by binding to the mRNA, how could the RNA allow some genes to be up regulated? Please enlighten me because this case is new to me.
