I'm doing a master thesis using CVM to evaluate tourism value of mangrove forest. My questionnaire present hypothetical trip and ask for WTP for that trip. I plan to use double bounded dichotomous question in the questionnaire.
I think the authoritative paper on how to ensure/think about incentive compatibility in design is the following paper: Carson, R.T., and T. Groves, 2007. Incentive and informational properties of preference questions. Environmental and Resource Economics 37, 181-210.
Starting point bias: Well, eliminating it is hard, but take care to have you design include a range of starting points enabling you to at least estimate the effect. If you want to avoid starting point bias, you can use an open-ended format, which of course has no starting point - but is also an entirely different elicitation mechanism.
