I want to characterize the nanoscale structure of p3ht:pcbm films using sem or tem, but I'm having trouble with floating these films off of the glass substrate to transfer them to a tem grid, etc. Can someone please explain how people actually do this for p3ht:pcbm or polymer films? I read all the time that these films are simply "spin coated and floated on water", but I cannot seem to free these films from the glass.
Hi Caitlin, usually such p3ht:pcbm films are not spin-coated onto the glass substrate directly, but the substrate is coated with a pedot:pss film before. This layer is soluble in water - to some extent, don't heat too much, or use pure pss. To enable the water to affect, scratch the p3ht:pcbm film.
