We are doing group project on Experimental investigation through numerical modelling of residual stresses generated during turning of AISI 52100. In guidance we need step by step procedure for measurement of residual stress in ABAQUS?
Firstly, it's important to realise that the result that you get from a finite element analysis will not be a measurement, but rather a prediction. If you are actually interested in measurement, then "Practical residual stress measurement methods" edited by Gary Schajer is a good introductory textbook.
If you just want to do an FE analysis, then you don't need to do anything particularly special to get the residual stress field out. If you have a process which involves inhomogeneous inelastic deformation, such as turning, then the stress field left over at then end of the process (and after the temperature has equilibrated) is the residual stress field.
The difficult part is usually modelling the process which causes the residual stress. It sounds like you want to do a thermal-elastic-plastic model of the turning process. I am not an expert on modelling of machining processes, but even I can see that this will be very difficult. If you don't have any experience of residual stress prediction (and if you havn't used Abaqus before) then you are unlikely to get meaningful result in terms of the residual stress field in a reasonably short space of time. For this reason, I would recommend looking for simpler analytical residual stress prediction methods for this process in the existing literature before attempting a full-blown FE analysis of the process.

Our group has used the Crack Compliance Method. An experimental and numerical approach has been used. The companion paper shows some details.
For numerical predictions of residual stresses due to machining processes, I recommend you to work with equivalent loadings. Therefore, any implicit computer code for elastoplastic calculation can be used to do the simulation. You can find in the following reference all the information needed to achieve such simulation in the case of the turning process (see my RG page).
