4T1/Balbc model is an typical model for breast cancer, but 4T1 cells lack of specific markers for flow sorting. Is there any way I can distinguish the 4T1 cells from the mouse host cells? Thank you very much.
You are right. They don`t have specific marker. The best way is transfect the with GFP or RFP or label with membrane dyes and inject them into mice and based on the GFP or RFP or Dye you can separate.

4T1 cells are established as resistant to 6-thioquanine, micro-metastatic cells (as few as 1) can be detected in many distant site organs with better accuracy that most tumor models. That is why the selection with the agent 6-thioquanine is considered to be the easiest way to separate 4T1 cells from other mouse cells predominantly composed of fibroblasts.
