We have a Waters 2695 HPLC machine with Waters 2487 dual gamma absorbance detector. Its not been used for years. Now when trying open it, it shows the message "Alert : Solv delivery h/w problem." I can assume that something went wrong with hardware, but i don't know which part. Please give your valuable suggestions about fixing it? Also feel free to mention any cheaper option i can go for fixing it. Thanks in advance.

I worked with alliance 2695 some years ago. One time the machine had this same message and the problem was the degassers camera, but it was diagnosed by Waters technician. But this message is possible for many pump trouble, if your machine is some days without work will be good you clean up all the system.

I have not used this model of HPLC pump+programmer, but I did a search through the Operator's Manual for the 2695 and 2690, and can't see your 'Alert:' error message listed.
Waters suggest switching the unit off then on again, to see if re-booting clears the message - if not, they advise to call their customer helpline for further advice/diagnosis. I wonder if the 'solvent delivery' problem could be caused by air in the system: was the mobile phase solvent that you started with filtered and de-gassed? did you wash and prime the pump heads first, with a low-viscosity solvent, such as methanol/ethanol? did you check the filters for blockages - eg from buffer residue not removed prior to storage, or incompatible solvent? These could all cause problems with solvent delivery. If you have air trapped in the system, you will need to work through the 'dry-prime' and purging protocols, for each potential air-trap/blockage point in sequence, along your solvent flow path(s), ensuring that the level of the mobile phase reservoir remains higher than the pump head(s).

You should refer Operation Manual of your system, where in solutions will be given against specific message otherwise you can contact your service engineer.
Might be the Pump's GPV. Check for leaks or problems with any of the solenoids. These clog up when people abuse the systems and/or do not flush any buffers or acids out of the system each day. With proper maintenance, the HPLC system should last for several decades.
Before concluding a diagnosis, you should also make sure all mobile phase solutions arr fully degassed, all channels of the pump have been properly primed and flushed (no air in the system) and their is flow from the waste outlet when running. Many initial hardware errors are a result or air, rather then liquid in the flow path.
If you are not familiar with these parts or how to service the HPLC system, then I would strongly urge you to hire a professional to service your system (and also purchase some basic instrument training too). Investing in your own knowledge is always a wise investment.
This is mostly related to the two torpedoes of Alliance 2695 system that are pumping the solvent. You may try to apply lubrication, manual priming of all the four solvent channels and try restart. If this persist you need to call the service support which may lead to a replacement of the torpedoes.
This error message can be associated with a large number of faults. My experience is that the movement of position of the two pump torpedoes (pistons) requires too much power or has lost synchronization (correct position relative to each other). If you have already tried the turn it off and on solution, a Waters service engineer is the best solution. Especially if you have no idea how to approach the problem yourself.
I agree with Zoé, air and or particles may have been trapped inside. It will be fine to reboot, and purge. If problem persist contact a technician
