We have been color banding American Kestrels using A-craft alpha-numeric color bands since ~2013 and would like to test other options. I am curious if any other researchers have experience using Pro-Touch's bands on raptors (https://www.protouch.ca/services-view/bird-bands/).

Hi, Jesse, we have been using this kind of band in American kestrels, I don´t know if the brand is pro touch but they are very similar and for me, they are great because it is to read them, especially the four letters and numbers code.

There are a lot of projects using colour bands on kestrels across europe. There is a database collecting all colour-ring projects in europe. Check the webpage: http://cr-birding.org and search for the species. You can also contact the responsible persons indicated on the project page .

Hi Jesse,
In Ecuador at some point in my former lab, they try similar bands to those in the link. According to my friend that used those, she mentioned they were less reliable than the metal ones, mainly because the sizing was a bit odd and it didn't close properly. She was likely to use metal bands even though they require more equipment in the field to attach them to the birds.
