Thanks! Ian. We know that, but all the dilution and centrifuge cause sample (isolated plant cells) loss. The DNA/RNA shield is a new product from Zymo, but just don't know how good it is. Thanks!
Yes, I did an assay using RNA/DNA shield from Zymo-Research and it works perfect. I was extracting RNA from malarial parasites in RBCs, the only problem is that you'll have to work with their technical support and make them tailor the protocol for your need, also in most cases its a two coloumn assay.
The product have excellent reproducibility when stored at 4C for up to a month.
Dear all, we are also planning to try this out, but aren't entirely sure if all the subsequent kits in their manual are really needed to get the best possible results. We tend to use CTAB for DNA and Trizol for RNA. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!
Somebody has used the RNA/DNA shield followed by the RNA mini kit from Quiagen? we are having problems because The zymo protocols are not very clear. We had conducted an RNA isolation for a gram+ bacteria using this combination and we had not obtained any quantity of RNA. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks so much for any help!
Johana Madronero Johana: gram+ bacteria have difficult to lyse cell walls. You would probably need a protocol specifically for that where you have a bead beating lysis step at a high temperature in order to lyse the cells in order to get to the DNA inside. You can look at any microbial DNA extraction kits, Qiagen has a nice one, it should work for you.
