I'm conducting a research on facsimiles of medieval manuscripts and I am currently looking for indications on models or parameters of comparison between the manipulation of these media and their respective uses.

My object comprises some facsimile editions of the Book of Kells, including the digital reproduction available in the digital collections of TCD.

The codex per se had a liturgical use but what are the implications to the reading, meaning and manipulation of the object when we consider the distinct media of the print facsimile, (with a considerable distance to the general public) in juxtaposition* to the digital facsimile (as I am calling the reproduction available at TCD website), being more accessible, either to the scholar or the general public?

These thoughts derive from the works of Walter Benjamin, Maura Nolan and Jessica Brantley, feel free to digress in any direction from this point (relationships with personal researches and examples are very welcome)

*maybe that's not the best word, apologies in advance as english is not my first language.
