Dear colleagues,
I am working on the detection of multiple stress conditions induced in cell culture (HEK293T and HeLa cells) as osmotic (sorbitol/NaCl), oxidative (arsenite) and DNA damage (UV-cross linker induced) stress. I want to measure classic over-expressed genes by real time RT-PCR and I want to know if you can suggest me which genes should I use, and if you have some standardized primers whose sequence you could share with me to order and try with.

The paper below gives you a comprehensive list of stress induced genes. Select the genes which you think are relevant in your studies. All you need to do then is to google for the gene & RT-PCR/primers and select the primer pairs that have been used in multiple papers (chances are they would work).

For expression of early osmotic response you should imvestigate aquaporin genes. According to the tissue, the type of aquaporin to research would differ. For example in brain AQP4, in kidney AQP2, etc. Sometimes these proteins are not the product of increased expression, but increased trafficking. But basically for osmotic response you have no other genes.
