Analysis conducted using AAS to determine the presence of tungstate within the sample. The tungstate concentration of the sample was around 1100 ppm but after diluting 2 ml of sample to 5 ml, and then calculating metal concentration in the original sample using proportion, 1800 ppm for concentration obtained. The pH of the sample was around 9.
I'm not an expert on AAS, but it seems to me that if you dilute the sample by 60%, the concentration should go down by 60%. Maybe the diluent you used was contaminated with tungstate, or something else that was confused with tungstate.
I agree with Dr. Adam B Shapiro's answer, you can also measure the concentration of the diluent which you used alone. Although, you can increase (broad) the range of the prepared standards which you use to draw the standard curve.
I think have some problem, Those are:
1. Problem at apparatus to dilute such as solution contaminate, micropipette. (But your result increase 60%, the ability is very low)
2. Matrix of a sample has the effect to tungstate, when you dilute, the effect of matrix decreases, your result will increase. (The ability is high). You should spike standard in the sample to test
I concur with @ adam. When a solution is diluted, the concentration of ions cannon increase unless there's cross contamination
