Hi

There were some experiments going on in our lab and I am comparatively new to the field. Cells infected with virus were stained with DAPI. I read about and DAPI and found that they tag to DNA and hence fluoresce the nucleus of cells. But if the Virus is a DNA virus, wouldn't the virus glow too? Would or wouldn't DNA inside the virus capsid be stained by DAPI? My Labmates say, it doesn't. I found a couple of papers which say they do. What should I believe. The virus is McKrae Stain of HSV-1.
